Phil is a Chartered Consultant Physiotherapist with a special interest in musculoskeletal and sports medicine. Known for his calm approach and diagnostic precision, he is often called upon for second opinions in complex MSK presentations. In clinic, Phil combines his advanced practice skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound and image-guided injections with a broader role as Operational Director at Great Northern Physiotherapy.
Since graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2006, Phil has worked across multiple NHS and private sector roles in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and Sheffield, focusing on sports injuries and musculoskeletal health. Alongside clinical practice, he has pursued further training and education, holding a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (MSK) and Postgraduate Certificates in Sport and Exercise Medicine and Musculoskeletal Diagnostic Ultrasound.
Phil is involved in several ongoing projects, including novel research into the role of artificial intelligence in musculoskeletal assessment. He also leads the clinic’s education and development programmes, supporting early-career clinicians through structured graduate training and mentoring.
Outside of his clinical and leadership work, Phil enjoys contributing to the wider profession as a visiting lecturer and speaker in areas such as physical activity promotion and injury prevention.
A lifelong endurance athlete, Phil has competed nationally and internationally in athletics, triathlon, and most recently HYROX. His achievements include a European bronze medal and a British Age Group Triathlon title—though he’s most proud of the consistency and enjoyment he’s found in staying active over the years.

“I love being in a position to support people in becoming more active and making real lifestyle changes to become healthier. Whether that be a novice athlete doing their first park run or a more experienced athlete gaining a new Personal Best, I love the challenge!”
